Boston Strong

As I remember this day one year ago, I am grateful for all the good people in this world. The media exposes us to all the negative news that we sometimes forget all the positive, caring, and giving people around us.

One of the most positive and healing things we can do is express our gratitude. I am grateful for my health, my family and friends, this community, my profession. I am grateful for love, laughing, and nature. I am grateful to have a job where people come for healing – body, mind, and soul. I am grateful to have all these things to be grateful for! Boston Strong Chiropractor

As a thank you to all those who continue to run the Boston Marathon and keep Boston Strong, Denaro Chiropractic is giving 15% off for all runners until April 30, 2014.

This is a blog post that I wrote last year after the marathon:

As Boston and those affected by the Marathon bombings slowly get back to normal, we are surrounded by reassuring phrases like, “Boston Strong” and “Run For Boston”. While the attacks cannot be undone, it makes us remember how valuable every single day is and that we must cherish our family, friends, and health. It’s easy to simply get back into our regular routine and push the memories of that Monday morning to the back of our minds.

Just a few days ago, I was feeling lazy and contemplating if I should go for a jog or just sleep in. I started thinking about the victims who are still in the hospital with limb amputations and shattered lives. There was no way I was going to use my legs just to stay in bed. My new mantra is, “Because I Can!”

I will run because I can. I will do push ups because I can. I will work because I can. I will stand on my own two feet because I can. I will tell my family that I love them because I can. I will be in charge of my own health because I can.

This situation makes me even more proud to be a Chiropractor in Massachusetts. There is nothing better than helping people feel good to go! I want everyone to be able to run because they can! No matter what it is that is holding you back from using your two legs, two arms, and core, you have the potential to do the activities that you love. If you find yourself saying, “I can’t”, then it’s time to make your health and your body a priority. If you’re too busy or have a list of excuses, then at least do it for the people who had their health taken away from them.

We are Boston Strong. It’s time to make yourself strong, too – because you can!

How To Get Lucky With Your Health

How to get lucky with your health! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Did you know that you create your own luck?

These are 4 strategies to give your health a boost and have luck flow into your life freely and effortlessly.

EXPECT THE BEST

Being an optimist with your health means not giving up on your body. Remember, only YOU can control your health. The food you eat, the thoughts you think, the actions (or lack of actions) you take all impact your health. When you notice something changing in your body, don’t get upset with it. Recognize it and thank your body for giving you the signals now, while you have the chance to change it and improve it.

TAKE IT EASY

Anxiety and worry are enemies of luck. They introduce a factor that says “Whoa there! Hold back now!” You won’t be stumbling across luck while you are too busy getting caught up in your thoughts. When we are exposed to stress, no matter how big or small it may be, our body’s only response is to tighten up. Releasing your fears and worries may be easier said than done but there are steps you can take, such as committing to a meditation practice, exercising more, and surrounding yourself with loving and supportive people. Remember, your chiropractor is always here for you too!

Healing With Your Heart

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Advice for Healing With Your Heart:Healing Heart

*Honor the wisdom and genius within – the Healing power is innately within you – Trust the power and trust your body to know how to do the right thing

*Empower yourself and others with this philosophy – The power to heal yourself is everyone’s birthright – Every living being possesses this ability

*Care for your body with whole food and natural healing therapies to allow the wisdom and genius to express to its fullest – Acknowledge yourself as the healer

*Reinforce every day that only you are responsible for your life experience – Emotional, physical, spiritual, etc.

*Thoughts are things – Believe and trust in your own body – Look in the mirror and tell yourself: I Love You

Guest Lecturer at UMass Lowell

UMass Lowell Alumni

Yesterday, I was invited to be a guest lecturer for two classes at UMass Lowell. Being an alumni of UMass Lowell with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology, I was honored to be able to share my experience and career decisions with the students.

Some of the things I shared with them included my personal experience with chiropractic, which motivated me to spend 8 years of school training to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. The other reason I love being a chiropractor is that it is a 100% natural healing therapy. There are no drugs, medications, surgeries, or injections involved.

I also explained to them that people will often visit a chiropractor because of pain but once they are under regular care, they notice other changes in their health, like improved sleep, more energy, better digestion, easier breathing, etc.

We also talked about what it’s like starting up your own practice and how great it is to be a business owner and be connected within your community. I explained to them that there other things you can do as a chiropractor, such as work with animals, athletes (recreational and Olympic-level), kids, or in Veterans Affairs Hospitals.

It was a true honor to be invited back to the campus that provided me with solid stepping stones and a wonderful education!

Holiday Season Stress Busters!

Holiday Stress

Stress Buster Tips

Do you feel stressed around the holidays? It’s no coincidence that flu/cold season is the same time as the holidays. Whether you are experiencing:

-Physical stress (raking, shoveling, poor posture, etc.),

-Emotional stress (financial worry, in-laws, deadlines, etc.) or

-Chemical stress (eating more sweets, drinking more alcohol, etc.),

your body is weakened by it. Any of these types of stress impact the immune system, nervous system, digestive system, spine, and muscles.

There may be very little you can change in your life and routine to minimize these stressors but you can certainly change the way your body reacts to them. Here are some helpful tips for managing stress:

If Raking Leaves You in Pain

If Raking Leaves You in Pain

Autumn is perhaps the most beautiful season, especially here in New England but it also means it’s time for yard work. Raking leaves can be a great workout since you can burn up to 300 calories per hour. Unfortunately, since we only rake the leaves a few times a year, our bodies are not conditioned for the stress load. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, nearly 28,000 people suffered injuries from raking in 2008.
